Disease in Turfgrass 2024

Disease in Turfgrass 2024

When air temperature and humidity total 150 or higher, Brown Patch disease flares up each summer. Example, 88-degree air temps + 62 % humidity = 150. Cool season grasses like fescue and bluegrass are susceptible from May through August each year. Things that increase disease outbreaks are as follows:
  • Afternoon thunderstorms
  • Continuing irrigation during rainstorms
  • Piles of mowing clippings being left on lawn
  • Limited air circulation in fenced lawns

Brown Patch in Fescue

Tall Fescue

We begin disease prevention apps in May through August for those that take the disease package. Treatments are done 21 to 28 days apart, depending on disease pressure.

Large Patch in Zoysia

Zoysia
Bermuda and Zoysia are susceptible, especially during initial seasonal green up, typically in May/early June. Soaking rainfalls followed by overcast days and typically nighttime temps under 60 degrees are prime for development.
